Question:
Does the plate go against the tub side wall? The washer go on the outside wall before the nuts? Correct? Just checking.

Correct, the LaSalle Bristol Utopia RV Tub and Shower Diverter Faucet, # 34427356605WHAF installs with the plate then the washers before the nuts. I suggest using the quick connect nuts option. Please note the linked product review video below.
