Finding the Brake Switch Wire on a 2002 Buick Rendezvous to Install a Trailer Brake Controller

Question:
I have 2 switches mounted on the underside of steering column . I presume that I need to tie into the switch that only has 2 wires coming out of it. Thats the top one. The switch right below it has many wires coming out. Am I correct?

You will need to test the wires to determine which is the correct one for the red wire on a brake controller. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if you do not already have one. Test the wires until you find the one that shows power only with the brake pedal. If you find a wire you think is correct, but it also shows power if the head lights or turn signals are on then it is not the correct wire.
