Question:
I just recently bought a 2008 ford escape xls with no existing racks and I am looking at the rhino racks that hold a load of up to 220 lbs. but it says not for a roof with rain gutters, which I believe mine has. A couple of inches from the doors running all the way down the length of the vehicle are these little trench looking things, would these be rain gutter? and if so what are my other options for roof racks?

What you have on the roof of your 2008 Ford Escape is similar to a rain gutter in that it will direct water as it flows on the roof of your vehicle, but it is not the kind of rain gutter that would prevent you from installing a Rhino Rack roof rack.
To see a picture of a traditional rain gutter with a Rhino Rack rain gutter mount # RL110S2 attached to it check out the picture I attached.
To complete the install of a Rhino Rack roof rack for your vehicle you can use complete roof rack # RRRS240B. This setup will have a weight capacity of 165 lbs, check your owners manual to see what is listed as the roof capacity of your vehicle and go with the lower rated component as the overall capacity. The roof capacity is likely not going to be greater than 165 pounds. Currently none of the roof racks for your vehicle are rated over 175 pounds.
