Question:
I have a 2012 Cadillac SRX. Will the 75682 Draw-Tite hitch work to tow a pop up camper with a GVWR- 3,000 lbs- GAWR- 2720 lbs? How do I know what my tongue weight is?

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75682 has a gross trailer weight capacity of 4,000 pounds so it can more than handle the 3,000 pound gross weight of the trailer you plan on towing. However you will want to look at the vehicle owners manual to determine what the towing capacity of the vehicle is. Whatever is lower, that is the capacity you must go by.
Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So if the trailer weighs 3,000 pounds that would make the tongue weight between 300 and 450 pounds. The hitch has a capacity of 400 pounds tongue weight. Again you will need to check the owners manual to determine its tongue weight capacity.
To determine the tongue weight, you could use a tongue weight scale like # e99044. You can also follow the methods described in the FAQ article that I have linked for you.
In addition to the trailer hitch I also recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # C59236 if the SRX does NOT have a factory tow package. If it does have a tow package then use # 118259.
I have included some helpful video and instruction links for you.
