Question:
2008 Subaru outback hitch. What is the correct ballmount for this hitch?

Expert Reply:
Both Class I and Class II trailer hitches are tested and rated with the specific ball mount for that hitch, therefore the ballmount used must be the one that is recommended by the trailer hitch receiver manufacturer.
If your vehicle is equipped with a factory Class I, or Class II I can make the following recommendations based on the manufacturer.
Class I or Class II hitch that is manufactured by Curt I recommend the # C45519 ball mount.
Class II hitch that is manufactured by Draw-Tite, or Hidden Hitch then I recommend ball mount # 36053
Class III ball mounts are rated up to 6,000 pounds and will work with trailer hitches that have a 2 inch x 2 inch opening. I would suggest measuring your hitch and trailer and determine which of the ball mounts fits your needs.
I have included a helpful article that explain which measurements you will need to take such as: hitch height, coupler height, rise, drop, length, and ball diameter. I have also included a link to the fixed ball mounts that we offer please choose the appropriate ball mount that will accommodate your towing needs.
If your vehicle is equipped with another factory hitch that I have not mentioned or that is not labeled please contact a dealership or the manufacturer and have them recommend an appropriate ball mount corresponding with the hitch manufacturer.
Please consult your owners manual and ensure that you are staying within your vehicles towing capabilities.
I have included links to the parts listed above.
