Manual Knob Does Not Work On Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Updated 08/17/2021 | Published 08/15/2021

Question:

I have a primus iq installed on a 01 ram 1500, it shows n.c on hookup, but if I use b1, b2, b3 the trailer brakes do work. We have verified with a test light on the 7 pin on the truck that when the breaks are pressed the electric breaks light up for the 7 pin on the truck. We also tested on the camper side with a battery and wires that when a wire is put to ground and the trailer brakes on the 7 pin on the trailer the brakes do engage. Again, I am able to use b1, b2, b3 but on b1 it is too much break. When i turn on the truck it does not give me the option to use the manual knob to adjust it. Any suggestions?

If the manual slide is not working with the brake controller, you need to test the wires going into the brake controller, make sure you have power entering the brake controller on the black wire. On the red wire you will only want power when the brake pedal is pressed. If it is connected correctly it may be a problem with the unit.

If your B1 setting is too high then you need to properly adjust your trailer brakes. I've linked below instructions on how to properly adjust the power to your brakes.

This may also be a sign of a weak ground, especially since the booster produces more power. Make sure your ground is properly grounded to a clean area free from rust and debris.
