Since the solenoid(s) on your SuperWinch LP8500 Off-Road Winch 8,500 lbs # SW1585202 is clicking, this means it is getting power and operating, so it very well could be a faulty motor. Because your winch has been sitting awhile, I would start by going through each connection to make sure everything is tight and free of corrosion. Then make sure your 12V battery is charged up and ready to go so that the winch has ample power to operate.

After checking those things and the winch still does not operate either direction, then it is very likely the motor that is bad and you would want to reach out to SuperWinch to track down a replacement motor if that is the route you want to go. In this case, I would just recommend replacing the whole setup since it is already an older winch. The Bulldog Winch Standard Series Off-Road Winch 8,000 lbs # BDW10041 is a very nice and affordable option that I would look into as a replacement.
