Preventing The Theft Of A Thule Roof Rack That Is Attached To Flush Rails On A 2021 Mazda CX-5

Updated 07/29/2021 | Published 07/28/2021

Question:

I have a 2021 Mazda cx-5 with factory side rails 2 pictures above and installed the Thule 3160 Fit Kit using the provided 8 screws STAR pattern six point head and the included STAR pattern six point hex key provided. Question is how can I prevent someone else from loosening the 3160 Fit Kit since that STAR pattern six point hex key is included in all Thule Fit kits? I see all 8 screw heads exposed and anyone who has that STAR pattern six point hex key can loosen it and take the whole roof rack off. Please see photo.

Unfortunately, the Thule roof rack setup for your 2021 Mazda CX-5 does have a couple of exposed screws on the rear of each Thule foot. But if you have the Thule lock cylinders, you can lock your roof rack to your vehicle. When this is done all of the other screws are covered by the plastic cover. The nice thing about the Thule Rapid Podium Feet, part # TH460R, is the ease in which you can remove the foot from the fit kit. If you are carrying something on the roof rack and the roof rack is locked to your vehicle, the odds of someone taking your rack off your vehicle are very low. That is because if someone wanted to take your rack they would have to remove it in one piece. The items you are carrying and the roof rack itself would have to be removed intact. We do not have anything to lock the back screws in place, but you can just remove your rack when you are not carrying anything on it.

I have included a product description link and a video review link below.
