Updated 06/21/2021 | Published 06/19/2021

Question:

My winch is slipping when trailering my boat, I crank the handle but winch doesn’t turn when under load. Winch works fine in both directions with no load. Is this repairable or time to replace the winch? Fulton T1801 Thanks

Your Fulton T1801 may be slipping for a number of different reasons. Some of the most common come from use over time. If the teeth on the planetary gear or ratchet pawl start to wear down, or if the handle is stripped at the attachment point, you may experience slipping. If it is only slightly worn that would explain why it works fine without any weight but not with the weight of the boat. The spring may also need to be replaced.

If you can identify the handle as the problem, the # F501109 9-inch Fulton replacement handle will solve the issue. If you find that you need to replace the ratchet pawl, that part is not available, nor is the replacement spring in the kit if you need to replace the spring.

If you are unable to repair your existing winch and decide to replace it, I recommend the # F142306 Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch - 9" Long Handle, 20' Strap - Zinc - 1,800 lbs. This winch is the replacement for the discontinued Fulton T1801.

I have attached a review and installation video of the winch for your reference.
