Does the tire indicator device have to be plugged in to use ?

The sensors of the Tire Linc TPMS part # LC37VR are battery operated but the signal repeater/booster does require power to operate and give the range needed for your phone. If you wanted to have the system still work when not plugged into the trailer wiring you could install the repeater on the vehicle wiring instead.
