Question:
I have a 2014 Ford Escape with a naked roof. The roof had the existing tracks but no side rails. Is there a way I can put a cross bars rack on the vehicle without buying $600 side rails? I am trying to haul 2 8ft kayaks

Since your 2014 Ford Escape has a naked roof, you can simply add a roof rack system that clamps onto your door jambs, so you don't need to spend the extra $600 to get additional side rails. We have the perfect option for '14 Escape, which is a rack from Rhino-Rack. The reason I like this option the best is because it is the best value for a roof rack; the quality is the same (or higher) than similar name brands, but at a better price point.
Going with the Rhino-Rack allows you to get a durable, quiet roof rack, and is more economical because you don't have to pay to have a certain brand name on the crossbars. Here are the parts that make up the rack system for your 2014 Ford Escape:
- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA137B-2
- Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVA
- Custom DK Fit Kit # DK375
Another great thing about this rack is that it has 54 inch crossbars, which are longer than other fits for your Escape, which is really helpful for loading kayaks. If you need kayak carriers as well, I recommend the Curt J-Style Kayak Carrier # C18320.
Along with the carrier you will also need tie-downs, the etrailer Kayak Tie-Down Kit # e36ZR.
