Question:
I understand the need to power the remote wireless unit but does it HAVE to be 40amps. I have a 20 amp circuit, with the ability wire guage size to put in 30amp fuse that is literally 18 inches away from the 7 pin connector on my Chevy. Im not interested in charging any trailer devices as we have solar, generator, etc. just want to power the remote brake controller unit to function.

The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller w/ Bluetooth - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK94FR you were looking at only needs a minimum of 20 amps of 12v power. You shouldn't have a problem with the circuit you mentioned on your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.
With that said, the circuit will need to be dedicated to just powering the 7-way connector, and cannot have any other things on it.
If the circuit in question is not dedicated to just the 7-way connector you will need to install the # 5506 to run a dedicated circuit to the 7-way. I recommend using the included 30 amp circuit breaker since you are only using the trailer brakes, and do not have the circuit connected to your trailer battery.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
