Replacement Head for Reese 16k Fifth Wheel Slider Hitch

Updated 04/27/2021 | Published 04/23/2021

Question:

I have a 2004 F350, quad cab, long bed V-10 gas. I have installed Reese 30035 rail kit in bed and beefed up the mounting areas under the bed. I currently have both 16K 5th wheel 30047 unit and plate with ball for goose neck pulling. I wish to rebuild or replace my Reese 16K 5th wheel head unit is loose/worn and noisy. Questions for you? 30035 rail kit that bolts in bed appears to be same for 16 to 20k hitch s?? If this is correct I would like to buy 20K head replacement unit and bolt onto my arms? Can I do this? Seems as this would be a cost effective way to go. As I am updating... Considerations, I have seen goose-neck adapters that bolt onto 5th wheel trailers, I do not see many of these applications, however seem to be a more direct connection less moving parts. Can you offer an opinion as to which may be better pros and cons, 5th wheel hitch plate or goose neck application? I can go either way right now with minimal cost differences..

The Reese universal fifth wheel rail kit part # RP30035 can be used with a 16k or a 20k fifth wheel hitch like the two you mentioned. This rail kit essentially takes on the capacity of any hitch that would fit them. The easiest way to replace/rebuild your 16 hitch would be with the head part # 58165 as there isn't a head that would replace it and convert it to a 20k hitch.

Since the fifth wheel to gooseneck adapters can void the warranty of the trailer frame your best option would be to stick with your gooseneck plate to fifth wheel rail kit adapter.
