Troubleshooting Hopkins VueSMART RV and Trailer Backup Camera HM34FR Not Turning On When In Reverse

Question:

When you connect via wi fi , it lags and when I back up it just does not work. Is there a longer antena? Cant figure it out , trailer is about 33 ft and then then the truck

I reached out to my contact at Hopkins and there is a few things to go over.

Starting with the lagging when connection your phone to the wi-fi of the VueSMART RV and Trailer Backup Camera - Wireless - Universal Mount - 152-Degree View # HM34FR make sure that you turn off auto connect as it may be trying to connect your phone to different wi-fi which is causing the lagging issue.

Regarding the camera not working, if you installed the # HM34FR in the manner shown in the instructions, it is actually hooked up to the running light circuit of your trailer and not the reverse lights as most trailers do not have reverse lights. To turn the camera on you will need to turn on the head lights of your tow vehicle.
