Wiring In a P2 Trailer Brake Controller to a Factory Toyota Harness on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

i HAVE THE 2013 TACOMA OFF ROAD 4 DOOR 4WD. IS THIS ALSO FOR THE TRAILER BRAKE IT CAME WITH THE TRUCK AND SHOWS IT GETS HOOKED UP RIGHT IN THE AREA YOU SHOW. COULD YOU PROVIDE INFO ON WHAT TO DO WITH THIS? It harake controllers 5 wires that it says Black-Red: fsed trailer brake controller battery feed Green- headlamp switch to vehicle trail lamps Green-White vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller input Brown- trailer ground Red Trailer electric brake feed from brake controller output

I will be happy to help decipher the wires and functions that you have on your 2013 Toyota Tacoma. Basically, the functions that you have listed are as follows:

Black/red provides power to the brake controller
Green is what is called an illumination circuit and is not used by aftermarket brake controllers
Green/white is input to a brake controller that tells it when you are stepping on the brake pedal
Brown is the ground to complete the circuit to power the brake controller
Red is output from the controller to the trailer brakes

On a brake controller like the P2, # 90885, there are 4 wires with the following functions:

White is ground
Black is power to the brake controller
Red is input from the brake switch
Blue is output to the trailer brakes

You would connect the P2 to the truck wires as follows:

Truck Brown to brake controller white (ground)
Truck Black/Red to brake controller black (power)
Truck Green/White to brake controller red (input from truck brakes)
Truck Red to brake controller blue (output to trailer brakes)
