I do have a potential solution for you, however we don't have a traditional 5th wheel tailgate available that's designed to fit your 1986 Ford F-250. What we do have, however, is the Pilot Tailgate Net # TR-03 that is confirmed to fit and can essentially perform the same function - which is to eliminate clearance concerns or prevent damage to the tailgate while you have your 5th wheel trailer hooked up.
This net is really easy to install on your F-250 and it will also help to improve gas mileage a bit since it's going to reduce air drag during travel. I've attached a short video review on this product that you can check out as well.
