Reverse Light Circuit Does Not Work on 7-Way on a 2007 Chevy Silverado New Body

Updated 02/07/2013 | Published 01/24/2013

Question:

I am troubleshooting my truck and trailer wiring because when I go to back my boat trailer up the hydraulic breaks dont release. I have a 7 PIN connector factory installed. I have used a test light and every other circuit for lights etc works except the center pin where the revers is supposed to be. Am I supposed to connect something like I did when I installed an electric break controller? Is there a fuse that might be out or that I need to add? If not, can I just run a wire tapping in to the reverse light circuit from the tail lights?

If your trailer brake actuator has an electric lock out on it then you will need a working center pin on the 7-Way that is attached to the reverse light circuit on the truck. Since your truck has a factory 7-Way you can check the vehicle owners manual for the location of any fuses or relays related to the tow package wiring and/or reverse lights to determine if a fuse is blown or missing.

I did see that you found the issue was a bent pin inside the connector. I do recommend checking the other pins inside and out on the connector just to be sure they are all in good working order on both the truck and trailer if you have not done so already.

So I fixed it, but your information was no help at all. First of all I did not hardwire in my 7 wire plug. Read my question. It clearly says, I have a factory installed 7 wire plug. Also the reverse wire in the 2007 Silverado new body style was not purple or yellow. It was light green. I dont know where you got your information. It was either wrong or you read it as well as you read my question. All I was asking is if there was a harness connection the I had to do somewhere in the truck similar to what is required when you install an electric break controller. Anyway please post this so others that may have the same problem can see what I did to fix this. I checked voltage on all wires on the back of the factory plug and I had voltage. I checked the plug again and he center pin reverse had no voltage. So I took the plug apart and found that the pin connection inside the plug that is supposed to into the factory harness was bent over. The factory tech bent it during installation. A simple fix with needle nose pliers to bend it back in place, re-installed the plug in the bumper. All is well
