Question:
I am installing trailer lights to connect to a standard 4 pin plug. I am looking for a converter that I can install on the trailer to give independent brake and turn lighting. Most of the converters that I see are to be installed on the vehicle side. I want to have independent brake and turn lighting with the trailer only using a standard 4 pin flat plug.

On standard trailer wiring the right and left wires run as a combined signal. So the brake and turn signal for one side will be combined and the bulb itself acts as a brake and turn signal depending on the signal current. Since you are wanting to use separate brake and turn signals from a standard combined wired 4 pole plug you are going to need the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter Item # 118158 as well as the 4-Way Wishbone Trailer Wiring Harness with 42" Ground Wire - 40' Long Item # A40W42B and the I recommend using Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 5 Item # DW05745-5 to connect and protect your wire connections.
