Will this Cargo Box a good application for a 2019 Subaru Ascent? I am giving this as a birthday for my son.

Yes, the Yakima SkyBox # Y07336 Roof Top Cargo Box will work perfectly on your son's 2019 Subaru Ascent.
The Ascent comes with factory standard roof rails (Roof rails are the bars that run along the roof edge from front to back). You will also need roof rack crossbars (Roof rack crossbars mount to the rails and run from side to side).
If you don't already have crossbars I recommend the Thule # TH711420 crossbars and Thule # TH710401 feet. They have a flat black finish that matches your factory rails, and there are many accessories available to use these crossbars for other activities. I have included links to both of these products.
