Does Weight Capacity of Hitch When Used with Weight Distribution Mean After Install of Kit

Question:
Hi, my 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor has a max tongue weight of 800 lbs when using a weight distribution hitch vs 500 lbs without a WD hitch. My question is does the tongue weight of the trailer need to be under 800 lbs before I attach it to the tow vehicle? Or does the weight at the hitch need to be under 800 lbs after the weight distribution hitch is installed? For example, if I measure the tongue weight before attaching to the vehicle I get about 900 lbs. However, when I attach the trailer and install the weight distribution hitch and go to a scale I get 720 lbs at the hitch GCVW-GVW=trailer weight11420-6280=5140, then trailer weight-weight on trailer axle5140-4420=720 lbs. I attached my CAT scale readings for just the tow vehicle and for both the vehicle and trailer. Thanks!

The tongue weight capacity of your hitch when using a weight distribution system is 800 lbs before installing the WD system. So if your trailer naturally has an 800 lb tongue weight capacity or under you can use a system like the # PS49582 you referenced and you'd be fine. There'd be no need to try and determine tongue weight after the kit is installed.
