Can this unit be powered from the 12v system and the battery? if it is installed to the 12v system will the battery charge at the same time and then, will the unit run off the battery when the trailer is disconnected from the tow vehicle? what is the charge time on the battery and how many charge cycles does the battery have? what is the check in frequency of the unit when on 12v and battery? is that customizable. what are the costs for the subscription after the first year?

According to Linxup, the # 300-AT3-S can indeed be powered from the 12V trailer circuit as well as its internal battery. The unit will run off the internal battery, which will be maintained by the 12V trailer circuit. When not attached to the 12 volt circuit, a fully charged battery can last up to 3 months.

When wiring is attached it needs between 11-14 Volts of power. If you installed the white wire to an ignition source, red to power and black wire grounded. The unit will report every 10 minutes with power and every 24 hours without power. If you crimp your red and white wires together. The unit will report more frequently, but will drain the battery quicker. The unit has a monthly cost of $14.99 per device per month. The price of monthly services rather you are on a contract or not remains the same.

I've linked to a product description video featuring the # 300-AT3-S Linxup GPS Tracking Device.
