Weight Distribution System that Can Cover Tongue Weight of 400-800 lbs

Updated 07/17/2020 | Published 07/06/2020

Question:

I have 2019 Silverado 5.3 V8 that I use to tow my small travel trailer that weighs approx 3000 lbs loaded with a tongue weight of around 400 lbs. I also occasionally need to haul my ATV at the same time and it weighs 700 lbs. Would this #RP67509 WD hitch work for me if half of the ATV weight is counted as additional tongue weight? Im looking for something that will work whether or not the ATV is along for the trip. Which if I understand correctly I would need a range of 400-800 lb rating. I currently also use a friction type sway control bar.

Yes the Reese part # RP67509 would be your best option for a single system that would cover the tongue weight range you have the best. Keep in mind you'll have to set up the system differently for both scenarios so that you have the correct spring bar tension.

When setting up a new WD hitch system if I intend to haul an ATV in the bed of the truck when towing would I do all of the setup after loading the ATV into the bed?

Yes, if possible I would load up the ATV since part of its weight will act as total tongue weight, thus affecting what needs to be adjusted on the WD system.

@ChrisR. Would you take your initial height measurements on the vehicle before or after loading the ATV? Thanks.

@Andy You got it. Load the ATV up just like you would when heading out on a trip before taking the initial measurements.
