Question:
I am trying to find a weight distributing capable class IV hitch receiver for a1996 Chevy p30 Motorhome with a strengthened sub frame. I don’t mind a universal weld type, but everything I find Is “not for use with weight distribution systems.” What is the difference in design that makes some hitches WD capable and some not!? Is it a difference in the design of the mounting brackets, or is it a design difference in how receiver is attached to the tube? Thanks.

I may have a solution for you, but the reason that most hitches that can be used on RVs like your 1996 Chevy P30 Class A do not allow for use of weight distribution hitches is because of the leverage that is created at the rear of the frame and the distance away from the rear axle.
With that said, if the distance from outside the frame on one side to outside of the frame on the other side you can use the Multi-Fit Motorhome Trailer Hitch, 24" - 46" wide # 5350. This hitch can be used with weight distribution hitches and will have a capacity of 600-lbs tongue weight and 6000-lbs towing capacity. This is a bolt on hitch, so no welding is required and it does come with all of the mounting hardware required for installation.
If your frame is wider than 46" there are no available hitches for your vehicle that will allow you to use a weight distribution system.
