Is the Thule Outbound Roof Cargo Bag Waterproof

Updated 07/11/2009 | Published 07/09/2009

Question:

Both Thule 13 cubic feet rooftop carrier bags are listed as weatherproof. What does that mean and which would be closer to waterproof to keep my bags inside dry from rain? I there any padding on the bottom to protect the roof paint?

I would recommend the Thule Outbound since it has a no-PVC liner which is great for the environment and gives extra protection against moisture. The rooftop carrier bags weatherproof, meaning they repel water. The zippers are covered with flaps and Velcro to keep moisture out during rain.

Thule suggests packing your cargo in plastic bags inside of the bags when its raining. Waterproof would mean that if the bag were submerged, water would not come in. As far as protecting the roof paint, you could use protective pad # RL100650.
