Question:

I am in the process of figureing out what I need to install a trailer brake controller on my 2004 blazer s-10 it is not a trailbalzer. It has a heavy duty wireing harness installed,it is a 8 wire. The blue wire at the rear of the vehicle is the brake controller power wire, I cannot find the blue wire inside the vehicle, under the dash or in the engine compartment. Any Idea where they would hide this wire? I know there is a fused connection for the electric brake controller under the hood in the fuse block, but still now blue wire. Appreciate any help you may be able to give.

All of the information I have on the 2004 Chevy Blazer is that it is a hardwire installation for a brake controller. This means that the blue wire does not terminate under the dash anywhere and you would need to hardwire the brake controller blue, black, red, and white wires to the vehicle.

It is possible that there is a tow package port for a brake controller under the dash like on the same year full size GM trucks. Check on the driver side floor forward for the black junction box if present. If it is there, test the pins in the slot located second from the left on the top row. You will be looking for 12-volt power on one pin and power on another pin when you step on the brake pedal.

If you find these using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed, then you can plug in a Hopkins brake controller using # HM47795. Then you may need to make additional connections under the hood according to the FAQ article I have linked.

It is also possible that there will be tow package wires tucked up under the dash held together with a white tag. You could wire in the brake controller to those wires as well, if present.

If that port is not active or present or the wires are not present on your vehicle then you will need to hardwire the brake controller. I have included some links that will help with a hardwire installation.
