Does Electric Lockout on Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator Have to be Connected to Backup Lights

Updated 04/16/2020 | Published 04/14/2020

Question:

Does the electric lockout on the brake actuator have to be wired to the back up lights on the tow truck. I have a back up camera wired to the back up lights and Im concerned I will blow fuses or damage the back up light wiring with the additional load on the circuit.

If you only have an aftermarket backup camera tied into your OEM wiring then I'd be surprised if the electric lockout on the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # 8608611 blew any fuses. I suppose you could technically wires it to any 12V power source as long as you made sure it sent power back when you are backing up, but then you run the risk of damaging trailer and tow vehicle components so I don't really recommend doing that. It would be best to connect it directly to the reverse light circuit.

If you don't already have a 5-Way on your tow vehicle or your trailer then you can use the Hopkins Endurance Connector Kit # HM47890 and some Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05744-10 to help you complete the installation.
