Question:

In a previous question you stated that Dodge OEM brake controllers are not compatible with with electric over hydraulic. My 2014 Ram 2500 asks when setting up light or heavy electric over hydraulic. So I’m not sure what to think. Also I just purchased a travel trailer that when fully loaded weighs in a bit over 10,000 lbs. I have just about zero trailer brakes with the gain maxed out at 10. When I removed the break-away to trouble shoot, I could still pull the trailer although there was considerable drag. The brakes had applied, but not enough to cause lock up. Battery on the trailer was very, very low.

We've found that even the factory brake controllers that state they can be used with electric over hydraulic brakes don't often work well or even at all. The issue you are experiencing is due to the factory controller not working well with your setup so I would recommend swapping it out to something like the P3 part # 90195 with the install harness part # 3023-P and you'd have the best setup that will work much better and will definitely have ability to fully stop your trailer.

In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck. Once the TIPM has been reconfigured, and the ITBM has been unplugged, you can use the vehicle specific brake control harness, # 3023-P that I mentioned.

To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.
