Question:
Hello, I am looking for advice for a weight distribution hitch system. I have a 2006 Silverado HD with a maximum tongue weight capacity specification of 1500 pounds with a WD hitch. My trailer is rated for 14,000 pounds, weighs 4500 pounds empty and has an estimated empty tongue weight of 630 pounds. I realize have more trailer hauling capacity than truck hauling capacity, but would like to safely maximize hauling capability with this set up. Thanks!

When looking into purchasing a Weight Distribution (WD) system you want to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go dump trailer, which you can use part # e99044 for, along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2006 Chevy Silverado. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.
With all of that being said I recommend going with either the Reese Strait-Line # RP66075 with the hitch ball # C40008 and then you'll also need a shank (see attached selection and helpful article to choose correct one). This system has a TW range of 1,000 lbs - 1,700 lbs.
If you think you'll be on the higher end of the TW spectrum then I recommend investing in the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW2000 and hitch ball # C40008 instead. This system has a TW range of 1,500 lbs - 2,000 lbs so it will be more useful if your trailer is on the heavier end of things.
Both of these options are great and I wouldn't have a problem recommending either one so it strictly boils down to which one is better for your TTW. Attached are some review videos that you can check out.
