Question:
Hi i have a 2013 f350 with the bed rails at 57 inches. I am looking at 2011 Montana Big Sky and the part of the 5th wheel that goes over the bed is 58 1/2 when level. Is their a safe way to get the 5-6 inches of clearance needed on the bed rails? thank you

Ideally you want at least 6 inches between the bed rails of the truck and the overhang of the fifth wheel trailer. Some argue that as little as 4 inches is okay but 6 inches would be what I would recommend. So since you have only 1-1/2 inches of clearance currently when the trailer sits level you'll need a way to lift the trailer slightly to allow you the clearance needed. If the axles are currently above the leaf springs you'd be best served with an over under kit to gain the additional height needed. This will give you the additional height equivalent of your axle diameter added to the thickness of your leaf spring pack as a lift.
The diameter of your trailer axle will determine the size of the parts that you will need to order. If your axle is 3 inches diameter, the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit, # K71-385-00, would be a great choice and if your axle is 2-3/8 inch diameter you could use the Over-Under Kit, # K71-384-00. These kits can be installed without welding but the manufacturer strongly recommends having the new spring seat tacked in place on the other side of the trailer axle.
