Ford Mustang 2010 Convertible Tow Ready T-One Connector

Updated 05/14/2012 | Published 05/12/2012

Question:

I have run thru the directions up to step 7, which simply states Either route the black wire thru a grommet and along the exterior frame or follow the existing wiring along the thresholds into the engine compartment up to the battery avoiding areas that may pinch or break the wire.inch Are you kidding? The car is too low to get under it, and so my only option is thru the interior, and I have no clue how to run the wires, nor do I want to remove body panels. No mention how to get thru the firewall, nothing. Your site says 45 minutes to install. I am way past that. Pretty frustrated obviously, and seriously considering sending it back. Hopefully you have better instructions, or a way to tap the existing power in the trunk already. Thanks

The Tow Ready T-1 Connector # 118487 requires a connection to the battery in order to function properly. The T-1 receives the signals from its attachment behind the tail lights, but the voltage to power the trailer lighting is sourced directly from the battery. This is done to protect the circuitry in the vehicle wiring system. Drawing the power from a different 12-volt source can damage the electrical system in the event of a short circuit in the trailer wiring.

I have ran the power wire without using a lift, using ramps that I borrowed from a neighbor. The best and easiest way to run the wires is to follow an existing harness, and zip tie the wire to that.

I will link you to our FAQ article that will provide some guidance on routing that wire.
