Bike Rack For 2019 Toyota Tacoma That Has Factory Hitch With Thicker Side Walls

Question:
I have a 2019 tacoma with a class IV hitch. I bought a buzz rack and ended up returning it because the pin was too short and would only go so far and was not able to utilize the lock that came with it. I have a longer pin which is 5/8inch diameter but cannot use it with the rack. I have a few question: 1. does it utilize a proprietary pin or can i buy a longer pin? 2. What is the length of the pin? One of the problems im having is the hitch receiver is thicker than the normal hitch receiver. 3. what is the diameter of hole? can i use my own pin with a 5/8inch diameter? 3. Would i be able to bring down the tailgate without hitting the rack?

You are correct about your factory Class IV hitch on the 2019 Toyota Tacoma being thicker than a standard hitch receiver. Although the hitch on your truck is technically a 2" hitch it will need a longer pin about 3".
The Rola Convoy Bike Rack part # 59308-2 does come with a threaded hitch pin designed for 2" hitches so it may be too short for your hitch. I went out to the warehouse and the hitch pin hole was 5/8" but the usable length of the pin is 3". I recommend to measure your hitch including the sidewalls to see how much length you need. Since the pin is threaded I am not able to say if the pin you have will work.
If you need more than the 3" of usable length I recommend to use the Swagman Semi 4.0 2-Bike Platform Rack part # S64698 which comes with a hitch pin that spans 4-1/2" to fit the Toyota Tacoma hitch. This particular bike rack is a wheel mount rack so it holds the bikes by the wheels instead of the frame much like the Rola Convoy. The only difference is it does not come with the tilting feature for cargo access. We would not have a bike rack that extends out far enough for the tailgate to come all the way down.
This is the best option if you have carbon fiber bikes and you are concerned about not scratching the frame since it's wheel mount and has a pin to fit your hitch.
