Question:
Hi- This WD hitch looks like a good option for my Airstream Bambi Sport 16foot travel trailer that I tow with a 2019 Ford Ranger. My concern is that the shank appears to have limited drop and the back end of the Ranger is very high. Can this hitch be used with another shank that provides more drop ?

Hello Bill, the Reese Weight Distribution System w Shank - Round Bar part # RP65509 does come with a shank with a maximum drop of 1-1/4" from top of hitch receiver opening. It sounds like you need a shank with more drop to accommodate for the height difference when towing with the Ford Ranger. I recommend to use the Reese Weight Distribution System part # RP65509 and switch out the shank with Reese Weight Dist Shank part # RP3344 which provides a maximum drop of 8-5/8" from top of hitch receiver tube opening which should be plenty enough drop for your setup. This is the most cost effective option.
You do want to keep in mind the tongue weight rating of the Reese Weight Distribution System w/ shank round bar part # RP65509 is between 200 lbs - 600 lbs so you wan't the loaded tongue weight of your trailer to fall in that tongue weight range for the weight distribution system to distribute the weight properly. You also want to keep in mind that this weight distribution system does not include sway control so if your Airstream is experiencing a lot of sway on the highway especially when a big truck passes or with strong gusts of wind this particular system is not going to correct that.
If you are experiencing sway, please let me know the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and I can make a recommendation.
