Question:
What should I look for in winches manual or 12V DC please? I have to lift outdoor advertising signs max probably 350 LB vertically a max of say 3 ft and swing them over to down into a trailer. The trailer already has a rotating vertical mas, and a long horizontal boom at the top. There is an old non-functioning winch on the mast, but I want a new reliable one. Thanks

What you are needing is a brake winch that will not freewheel when the handle is released. Given the weight you describe, the Pro Series Standard Brake Winch # PSKR15000301 would be ideal for your application.
The winch has a 1500 lb capacity at full cable length, and a 700 lb capacity once the cable is completely wrapped around the drum, which would be plenty of capacity for your needs. The winch does have a minimum line load of 50 pounds required for proper performance.
For a winch cable that will work well with this winch, you can use the Fulton Galvanized Winch Cable with Hook # FWC7500100.
Our most popular Standard Duty electric trailer winch is the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch with Wire Rope # BDW15019. This winch has a static load capacity of up to 4,400 pounds and features an automatic mechanical brake to hold 100 percent of the load. The included wire rope measures 55-1/2 feet long .
I've attached review videos of the Pro Series Hand Winch and Bulldog Electric Trailer Winch for you.
