First, please note that Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24878 fits the 2012 Chevy Sonic Hatchback models, but not sedans. If you have a sedan, use # C11240. In both cases, these are Class I trailer hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. They will accept a 1-1/4 inch shank on a bike rack. However, the bike rack must be compatible with a Class I hitch.
Not all bike racks that fit a 1-1/4 inch receiver will fit in a Class I trailer hitch. This is so you do not accidentally overload the hitch and damage it or the vehicle. You will need to determine if your bike rack will fit in the Class I hitch.
If your bike rack is Class I compatible, you will not need to use the adapter since the receiver is 1-1/4 inches square.
If the rack is not Class I compatible, I recommend a new bike rack like # S63360, that is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. This rack features the ability to tilt down and anti-sway cradles. I have included a link to the installation details for it and the trailer hitch for you.
