Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying E-Bikes that Fits Class I Hitch

Published 08/27/2019

Question:

Were looking for a lightweight, versatile bike rack with integrated locks for our 2009 Ford Focusable to carry e-bikes and carbon bikes. The Saris SuperClamp EX 2 looks good, and the Saris website indicates that it can be used with a Class 1 trailer hitch. The E-trailer information says Class 2 and 3 only. Could you clarify, please? Thanks!

The Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F that you referenced only fits Class II and up trailer hitches. I checked their site and instructions to confirm this. I attached a picture from the instructions that states this as well.

So your best option for a bike rack for a heavier E-bike that can also fit a Class I hitch you'd want the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 as it is Class I compatible, rated for E-bikes, and also comes with ramps to make loading/unloading bikes easy as well. Since you have a carbon frame you'll also need the part # TH984101 to protect it when using this rack.

I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.
