Recommendation for Squatting 2017 Nissan Titan 2WD While Towing with a Weight Distribution System

Updated 08/13/2019 | Published 08/11/2019

Question:

I have a 10k capacity, 8.5 x 20 cargo trailer that weighs 3.2k empty with about 2.5k of household items in it at this time. With that total load of approximately 6k lbs, it causes the rear of my 2017 Titan 2WD to squat over 3. I have a weight distribution hitch, but unfortunately, due to the fact that the trailer is a v-nose with a standard tongue, I dont have enough length to install the spring bars correctly chains vertically. I have also shifted items in the trailer to lessen tongue weight, but the issue persists. I am well aware that my truck is limited to 9.3k total trailer weight minus additional passengers and total cargo weight and am limiting the cargo in the trailer to no more than 5k for a cushion of 1k. What are my options for leveling the truck to maintain a safe towing setup? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for all of the information regarding your towing setup. While we do have suspension enhancement for your 2017 Nissan Titan, you are going to see the most direct benefit by ensuring that your trailer has a tongue weight (TW) that is 10-15% of the weight of the loaded trailer and that your weight distribution (WD) system is set up properly.

I recommend using a scale like part # e99044 for the tongue weight and then seeing if bolt-on brackets like the Curt # C17005 or Reese # RP58305 that you can use to make sure the chains are oriented properly for your WD system. It is also important to make sure that the loaded TW of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Titan falls within the TW range of your WD system.

Once you have everything installed correctly then I recommend looking into suspension enhancement if you are still having problems. For your application I recommend the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS4611 because you can adjust the amount of help it provides plus it disengages when your Titan doesn't have a load which means you won't be compromising your ride quality.

Attached are some links to a review video of the RAS system as well as some helpful articles that you can reference.
