What Gear Should Vehicle be Left in When Towing

Question:

Should I use D or 4? I’m traveling from Florida to Tennessee

Expert Reply:

If you are towing your trailer within capacity you should leave the truck in overdrive and let the computer take care of what gear it should be in. If you are in a really hilly area and the truck is shifting in and out of overdrive I'd pull the gear down into the lower gear and leave it there. But in general nowadays the computers that control the transmissions do a really great job keeping the vehicle in the correct gear.
