Replacement Pin Box for Lippert 1716 Pin Box on a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD Long Bed
Published 02/24/2012 >
Question:
I have a 1716 Lippert pin box and it is to long for my 2011 Chevy Silverado HD dually-long bed. It can hit the side rails in a sharp turn. Will a shorter pin box work? I dont want to worry about it hitting the rails in a turn. It was not a problem in my 2008 Ford truck.

In this situation, I would recommend to first check the height of your fifth wheel hitch. The height of your fifth wheel hitch should be adjustable and if your hitch can be adjusted higher that may resolve your issue. If not, then I recommend switching to a Sidewinder pin box like the Fifth Airborne Premium King Pin, part # RP61412, with a weight capacity of 16,000 lbs.
With a sidewinder pin box the pivot point is at the turret that connects to the mount on the trailer rather than pivoting at the fifth wheel hitch with your current pin box. This allows the sidewinder pin box to remain stationary in the truck bed and the only moving component left is the trailer.
