Expert Reply:
The hitches that will fit the 2001 GMC Sonoma are based off of the model of the vehicle. If you have a GMC Sonoma that is considered a Sportside with Non-Towing Bumper, factory step bumper or have a ZR2 model, I recommend Class III Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75085 which is a concealed cross tube design with 3,500 lbs of gross towing weight capacity. The concealed cross tube is a nice discreet design because once installed you only see the receiver tube portion of the hitch and not the bulky cross tube. This design will also fit on vehicles without the factory bumper.
If your truck has a factory roll pan bumper, I recommend Curt Class III Hitch part # 13920. This is also a concealed cross tube design with 3,500 lbs of gross towing weight capacity. This hitch is the only hitch for the roll pan bumper.
