How To Install Yakima Tracks On a Leer Truck Cap

Question:
I have a Ford F150 with a flat Leer ARE cap on it but no rack track. Im considering installing Yakima tracks on it. But I wonder, is it best to install over the thick part of the cap or the thin part? Here is what I mean: looking at the inside of the cap, there is a rectangle roughly in the middle of the cap where the material is much thicker. About 8-10inch or so from the front, back and sides, this reinforcing material goes away and there is a thinner layer of material. If I put the tracks out near the side edges then Id be installing through the thin part. If I put the bolts through the thick area, then the tracks would be much closer together.

The best place to install a set of tracks on your Leer Truck Cap will be determined by the manufacturer, Leer. That said, most people will install them a few inches in from the side of the cap as this spacing will allow for the longest crossbar to be used. Personally, I would also install them in this manor (on the outside edge) even if that meant they would be attached to a thin portion of the roof.
For the Leer Truck Cap on your Ford F150, I recommend using the Yakima HardTop SL Roof Rack part # Y01618.
I have attached a few photos of the install instructions for the Yakima tracks.
