Question:
The pin got pulled out of our trailer breakaway switch and I need to know if there is a secret to putting it back in. I know what it does and how it works but when I try to insert the pin into the switch it doesnt seem to fit and turns to one side. What am I doing wrong ?

The portion of the switch that is pulled out on a breakaway assembly like the Hopkins # HM20014 is keyed, meaning it will only fit back in when in a certain orientation. There isn't a real secret to re-inserting the pin other than just trying to rotate it around as you push it in until you find the correct position. You might also make sure there isn't any debris or corrosion inside the switch that might be preventing the pin from fitting.
If you still cannot re-insert the pin or you notice any damage to the breakaway switch it might just need to be replaced. These are pretty universal between manufacturers so the above-mentioned Hopkins # HM20014 will work perfectly if needed.
