Question:
How to release a barrel lock that seems to not want to disengage. I need help freeing up a barrel locking mechanism on the back of our camper we use the lock to secure the platform for our generator on the back of our Grand Design reflection, when I turn the key it’s a CPP key, it turns appropriately but it does not release the pin from the barrel how can I get that to release and so I can take the generator off the camper and install the little platform on our new RV?

Most likely there is some corrosion built up inside the lock that is keeping the mechanism from working as you turn the key. I recommend using some spray lubricant to spray inside the lock through the hole. Let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes and then repeat this process, maybe a couple times.
This should hopefully get it to loosen up so you can unlock it with your key but if it does not your best option will be to have a locksmith try and get it open or drill out the lock yourself so you can remove your generator.
If you find that you need to replace your hitch lock once you get it removed I recommend taking a look at the DeadBolt # 40107. This unit is designed for 2 inch hitch receivers and features a stainless steel construction so you won't have to worry about corrosion over time.
