Will Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System Fit 3 Inch Tall Trailer Frame

Updated 07/21/2020 | Published 03/17/2019

Question:

I found your answer to the person asking about a wt dist hitch to use with his Riveside 177SE and Toyota Tacoma. You highly recommended the Husky Centerline TS 32216. Just to double check before ordering as I also have the 177SE, This trailers frame measured 2-7/8inch height of trailer tongue frame channel Perhaps my sight was off and it is a 3inch frame. Will the frame brackets of the Husky fit this height frame? I am not certain of width of the frame I am best guessin 1-1/2 to 2.

If the loaded tongue weight of your Riverside Retro 177SE trailer is around 420 to 460 pounds like in the question you referenced then the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System # HT32216 is a good option with regards to capacity but it will not work well with a 3 inch tall frame. The sway control brackets will only fit trailer frames that are 4 to 8 inches tall so there would be too much movement if they were to be installed on the tongue of your Riverside Camper.

For a similar system that will work on a 3 inch tall frame I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66558 which features the same 400 to 600 pound tongue weight capacity. The sway control brackets feature enough mounting holes that they can accommodate frame heights as small as 3 inches and as tall as 6 inches. I have attached an image from the installation manual that shows what the bracket assembly will look like on smaller frames like this.

You will just need to add a compatible hitch ball such as the 2 inch # 63845.

I have also attached a short video review that you can check out.

I have a utility trailer with an 3 inch high by 1-1/2 inch wide open C channel frame. I'm considering towing this utility trailer (estimated weight 2000 lbs) behind my travel trailer Winnebago Micro Minnie 2106DS. I would like to use a Weight Distribution/Sway Control system installed between the two. Would you recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66558 or another option?

In terms of trailer weight, the Steadi-Flex # RP66558 is a good fit for your utility trailer. A couple of things you will want to verify though before proceeding. I would contact the manufacturer for your Minnie to see if it's frame would be rated for a WD system - these systems put a lot of stress on the tow vehicle (which in this case would be the Minnie Camper) and not all of them can handle it. The same would go for the hitch itself that you have installed.
