Does a Chevy Aveo Require Tire Chains on All 4 Wheels

Published 11/22/2011

Question:

Ill be buying snow chains, as required by Yosemite Rangers, for a rental Chevrolet Aveo when I briefly visit the Park this December. Ive watched your video - very helpful. Would I be required to buy 4 or could 2, for front wheel use, chains be sufficient? Obviously if theres very heavy snow, I might even think of leaving the car at Merced and taking the public transport.

The first thing you will want to do is consult the owners manual for the Chevy Aveo to determine if chains can be used and if there are any specific restrictions or recommendations.

Chains should be placed on the main drive wheels. For example, if a vehicle is front wheel drive, you would place them on the front wheels. Have chains on all 4 wheels is not required but all 4 wheels can be chained to provide extra stability as long as the vehicle owners manual does not indicate chains cannot be used on all 4 wheels.

I have included a link to our tire chain FAQ article for you. There are a couple of ways to view all of the chain options that will fit your vehicle. First, you can run the year, make, and model, through our fit guide, choose tire chains from the options that appear, and then select the tire size on the vehicle (if applicable).

The other way is to use the tire size starting with the first number of the tire size. This will bring up all the chains available for a given tire size. I have included a link to this fit guide main page for you.
