The camera that comes with the Rear View Safety SimpleSight Wireless Backup Camera System # RVS-355W can actually be wired either way.
For the camera to only turn on when you are backing up you want to connect the power for the camera to the reverse light circuit on your vehicle. To view it at will simply connect the power for the camera to a circuit that you control like your running lights (headlights). By connecting it to this circuit the camera will receive power whenever you turn your headlights on.
