Determining if Two Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carriers Can Fit with Cargo Basket on Vehicle Roof
Published 12/13/2018 >
Question:
I have a roof mounted cargo rack and want to be able to add 2 kayaks alongside the rack. The rack is 6inch tall. How far do the cross bars need to extend beyond the sides of the rack to accommodate the kayak carriers? Thanks

I went out to our warehouse to take a look at the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier # S510 that you referenced.
I measured a length of 6-3/4 inches from the outside edge of the mounting hardware to the point on the inside cradle arm where the height reaches 6 inches above the crossbar. This will tell you how much crossbar space you will need for one of the cradles to sit next to your 6 inch tall cargo basket. If you mount one kayak carrier on each side of the basket you will need 6-3/4 inches of crossbar space on each side of the bar if you push them all the way against the roof rack mounting feet.
I have attached an image to assist.
