Can Cushioned Pin Box Replace Reese Revolution on Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2016 Jayco Eagle 355MBQS fifth wheel trailer. It came with a Reese Revolution 16K hitch pin. I would like to swap it out for a Reese Airborne Sidewinder or a Morryde Orbital Rotating Pin box. I understand these are about my only two options to upgrade to a dampening pin box. Will either or both of these two work and which would you recommend? ... and why. Thanks for your input. My wife sometimes has a hard time hitching/unhitching to our Titan 20 hitch with the current Reese Revolution. We also have had some wedge problems. Are the above mentioned units more wife-friendly?

I highly recommend going with a 5th Airborne Sidewinder overa MORryde Orbital because the 5th Airborne uses air bags which are adjustable as opposed to the cushioned block of rubber the Orbital uses.

The air bags on the 5th Airborne allow you to adjust the psi so you can find the exact pressure that gives you the best ride; the bags can also be repositioned forward or backward depending on your tongue weight as you can see in the accompanying cut out of the manual I added. These air bags are going to make a very big difference in regards to the amount of chucking, jarring and road shock you are currently encountering.

It terms of being user-friendly it is possible that the issue you are having is you are using the universal wedge that came with your Reese Revolution. To make things easier you will want to use a custom wedge, which for your Reese Titan 20 is the Sidewinder Wedge for Reese Titan 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30865.

It is possible there will be a 5th Airborne Sidewinder that will work as a replacement for your Reese Revolution (some are not replaceable) but you are going to need to know the original pin box model and number, which you can find by contacting Jayco with your VIN.

The following are the part numbers for the 5th Airborne with Sidewinder and the pin box model numbers they are replacements for:

- 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # RP61422 is designed for use with Fabex 663 and 665, Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, and M&M 663 and 665 pin boxes.

- 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # RP61412 is designed for use with Fabex 500, 503, 520, 530, 560 and 765, Lippert 1116, 1716 and 0115, as well as RBW 7019 and 7028 pin boxes.

- 5th Airborne Premium 5th Wheel Air Ride King Pin with Sidewinder # ST400-5AS16K is designed for use with Leland 7910, 7920 and 7921, as well as Dexter 221-0037 pin boxes.

I have added links to a review video as well as a video of a road test with the 5th Airborne for you to take a look at as well.
