Husky 5th Wheel Hitch Castle Nut and 2010-2017 Recall Issue
Updated 10/09/2018 | Published 10/08/2018 >
Question:
I have had to re-tighten the castle nut on the pin several times in the past year, due to loosening and creating noise. Is this normal as there is no mention of this in maintenence, just in installation. I just found out about the recall from Husky concerning the head and bolts loosening. Are they related?

The castle nut on the pin is not part of the Husky recall. The recall was not using Loctite on bolts in the handle and the jaw so bolts became loose over time in 2010-2017 models of the 16K and 26K hitch head. The manufacturer offers a repair kit for the 16K and 26K hitch heads to remedy the issue. This may be part of the issue with the fore and aft movement in the head, so I recommend looking into the recall.
The castle nut you are referring to is on the pivot pin and the pin should keep that nut from coming all the way loose. If you want to replace this part, you can use the Replacement Pivot Pin Kit for Husky Silver Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16K and 26K lbs # HT31574.
