Do I Need to Upgrade the Spring Bars on my Weight Distribution System

Question:

my camper is 31 ft. long. weighs 6700 lbs dry weight. my bars are 600-800. should i not be using a 1000 lb. bars

The weight capacity of the spring bars on your weight distribution system will need to exceed the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer in addition to any weight stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The average tongue weight of a trailer is 10-15% of the gross trailer weight (GTW) which puts you at around 670 - 1,005 lbs dry. Therefore, the 600-800 lb spring bars may be rated a bit too low. If you have the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System then you can use the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar part # RP66009 which is rated for 600 - 1,200 lbs.
