As long as your 1996 Pontiac Trans Am features 4 inch x 6 inch rectangular sealed lights, the Vision X Headlight Conversion Kit # VX-46 that you were looking at should work well as a replacement. These housings do not come with the needed 9007 bulb but it can be added with # VX-L9007. You will just need to cut off your existing headlight bulbs pigtail and wire it to the harness included with the housing using some quick-disconnects like # DW01899-1.
These halogen lights feature multi-surface reflectors that will give you up to 30 percent more light output than standard factory units. I have attached a short video demonstration on this kit that you can also check out.
